About Vickie Sekits
I have been passionate about creating art for all of my life. I considered going to Art School, yet for many reasons, chose to become a nurse. I graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing. Tired and busy, I eventually found less and less time for creative endeavors. After living in San Francisco for over 11 years, I moved to Los Angeles with my husband and have lived in the South Bay ever since. I became a stay at home mom raising three children and as my kids grew I found myself painting with them. My love for artistic expression was rekindled and I began taking ceramics, oil, watercolor and pastel painting classes whenever I could. I consider myself a “self taught” artist who has been painting for over 15 years now with many sources of inspiration. I love the beach, mountains, flowers, animals, meeting new people and visiting new places. I enjoy trying new media and techniques while I push myself to be the best artist that I can be. My work reflects what I am grateful for in my life. Over the years I have developed confidence in my talent and style. I feel blessed to be able to do what I love to do.
My other passion is to teach and encourage, both adults and children, to be creative artists. I was the Junior High Art Teacher at American Martyrs School in Manhattan Beach for 4 years. I continue to develop custom private art lessons and teach small groups of both children and adults.
Over the years I have been an active member with several art groups and have participated in shows throughout the South Bay. I am a charter and active member of the Pastel Society of Southern California and Destination: Art in Torrance, CA. where I have my studio.
