Create and Inspire

Summer is my favorite time of year for many reasons. Warmer weather, a more relaxed schedule, travel to visit family and friends, and usually time for vacation trips to far off places. The summer looks a lot different for reasons I do not need to talk about. Like many of you, I have found myself in a situation that I have not ever experienced. Stuck at home. It has not been east and I miss all my friends, family, and communities. No hugs or handshakes have been tough. All those fun events, workshops, travel plans are not happening. Yet, in some ways, this has been the best summer ever. I have more time and less distraction. I have made a lot of art.

"Art is about connection and sharing our unique human experience with one another."

My connection with friends and family has always been very important to me and now, more than ever, I have a desire to let them know how much I care. Texting, calling, and FaceTime are all great! I have reconnected with so many people this way. I also like to write notes. I think that to get a beautiful card with a handwritten note in the mail is such an uplifting and special thing, especially now. Making my own art cards and sending them out into the world has become one of my favorite activities and is great for getting my creative juices flowing. I especially like to use watercolor, Sharpies, brush tip colored pens, and inks. Sometimes, I will draw from a reference other times not. It is totally free and fun!

“Creating art as well as viewing art is an instant vacation”

One of the things I miss the most these days is travel. I agree with Hans Christian Andersen who said “to travel is to live”. I look forward to the day when we are all free to come and go as before. I am so grateful for all the beautiful places I have been and the people I have met on my travels. I have so many favorite places. How wonderful that we can escape through art! Here are some of my paintings from some of the places I’ve been that take me right back to my happy place.
